Dagrin Lives On : Today Marks 2 Years Since He Died

He has been known as the Original Omoita, Fimilejo, Omo Onile, Omo Ogun, Barack O’Grin, Chief Executive Omoita and many others but to us all he was Dagrin.

Today marks the 2nd anniversary since he passed away in 2010 after a motor accident in Lagos. The young Nigerian rapper who infused Yoruba giftedly in his lyrics broke the hearts of many of his fan and even critics with his death and since then has received a huge memorabilia in films, music and shows highlighting his life and music. As we remember Dagrin, the video director, Gino of his only solo video ‘Pon Pon Pon’ is to release what has been described as an ‘authoritative and informative documentary’ on the life of the beloved Lyricist.

The documentary titled Remembering Dagrin, a work by Omonita Entertainment by Gino, was created to not only remember Dagrin but also clear up some of the rumors that surrounded his life in the limelight. Gino says “Dagrin made me popular in the industry and I believe I owe him a duty to tell the real story behind some of his struggles that I witnessed. Not many people knew that we were already in the process of shooting the video of ‘Ghetto Dreams,’ feat Sossick, the first track of the album, on the day Dagrin died.”. On the history behind Omonita Entertainment, In a statement on Youtube Gino said that “Dagrin had plans of having his own crew made up of young artistes like him who are struggling through various adversities to make their voices heard. So OMOITA was created to also help artistes like him realize their dreams and carry on the dreams he had for MISSOFUYIN ENTERTAINMENT.”. Dagrin’s time in the limelight was brief but packed. During his time he has featured with artistes like Y.Q, 9ice, M.I, Iceberg Slim, Bigiano, Konga, and Kenny Saint Brown and was recognized with three nominations in the Hip Hop World Awards.  He was associated with Producers like Sossick, Dr Frabz, Sheyman, and Frenzy.

The Nation quoted his last statement to be “tell my fans I love them.” A statement he is said to have made in the presence of colleagues; DJ Zeez, Dekunle Fuji, Tunde Peters (his manager), Lexydoo and Shebaby whilst in the hospital.

Today we remember his Life, his Music and his Legacy.
