Manchester City produced a finish to outdo any in Premier League history as two injury-time goals secured a 3-2 victory over QPR and a first title in 44 years.
Trailing, inconceivably, to 10-man opponents with the worst away record in the league, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero struck for City during five minutes of stoppage-time to deny Manchester United a 20th English crown.
When the dust settles QPR's achievements will also merit a mention - Bolton's draw at Stoke left Mark Hughes' side safe despite the result - with Joey Barton's scandalous dismissal an ugly footnote.
But Barton's fate will keep for another day, and City deserve all the headlines for somehow dragging themselves over the line even as United's fans were celebrating - so they thought - more than just victory at Sunderland.
Roberto Mancini's appeared to have it cracked when Rangers' massed ranks parted just enough for Pablo Zabaleta to release a near-post shot which Paddy Kenny should have kept out (39).
But at that point QPR needed something out of the game to survive, and they got it when Joleon Lescott's back-header fell for Djibril Cisse to bury in non-nonsense style (49).
Barton did his best to handicap his own team-mates, poleaxing Carlos Tevez with an elbow and reacting to the inevitable red by attempting to take on all-comers on his way down the tunnel.
His exit had the opposite effect as Jamie Mackie headed reinvigorated Rangers in front from Armand Traore's cross (66), and as Kenny atoned for his error with a series of stops it seemed certain City would bolster their carefully-nurtured reputation for last-minute implosions.
But Dzeko's header gave them four minutes to find a title-winner, and Aguero ran onto Mario Balotelli's pass to provide one in the most dramatic fashion imaginable.
